The Techno Low-Down
BFusion/BFlex is a 100% hands-on conference. While we have amazing facilities for the event, we are unable to provide computers for attendees. The only we way can pull off the event is by requiring each attendee to bring her or his own computer.
Because of the diversity of skill levels and experience of the BFusion/BFlex attendees some have struggled in the past to get the right software downloaded and installed to be able to participate fully. We want attendees to get the most out of every minute of every session they attend.
This year we are going to leverage virtual technologies to deliver a standard work environment for every attendee. We had hoped to use the server-based virtualization that Indiana University is testing right now, but we were about a month ahead of their time line and they could not guarantee us a reliable image. Plan B was to build a stand-alone image that works in a free, cross-platform player. Special thanks to BFusion/BFlex staffer Matt Gunkel for putting in many hours to develop our image.
NOTE: The image is very large. Some of the steps below take a few hours to complete. Please set aside time to do this prior to the conference as there will simply not be enough time at the event. Failure to complete these steps may result in your missing some of your sessions. We will not be able to refund money for any missed sessions.
We recommend you install the virtual image, but you could also choose to download and install the software recommended by your speaker on the individual session pages. Links to both resources are below.
Questions?
Have no doubt this does take some time. In the end, though, it does not take any more time then it would to install all of this software individually. Should you encounter any problems or have any questions, contact Matt at webcommunity@iu.edu. Before you do though, make sure you have followed all of the steps above as they are written.
